SCI 200:  History and Philosophy of Science    (3 credits)  
This course engages students in an exploration of scientific thought throughout the ages. Students will examine the contributions of historical scientists, the interaction of scientific reasoning on culture and society, the relationship between science and religion, and the adaptation of scientific thinking to an ever changing world.
SCI 204:  Introduction to Human Disease    (3 credits)  
This course is an introduction to human anatomy with a general study of disease mechanisms and the effects on normal human physiology. Topics include electrolyte imbalances, tissue alterations, hypersensitivities, genetic disorders, cancer, and system pathology.
SCI 210:  EMT Basic    (0 credits)  
SCI 211:  Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)    (6 credits)  
The didactic portion of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course provides the cognitive knowledge required for entry-level EMS practice as outlined in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National EMS Education Standards and consistent with National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification requirements. Instruction covers foundational EMS concepts, including EMS systems, workforce safety and wellness, medical/legal and ethical considerations, patient assessment, airway management and ventilation, shock and resuscitation, trauma care, medical emergencies, obstetrics and gynecology, special patient populations, and EMS operations. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and the integration of evidence-based principles of prehospital care. This course is taken alongside (co-requisite) Emergency Medical Technician Lab. Successful completion of both the EMT lecture and Lab prepares students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) testing and the State of MA certification.
SCI 211L:  Emergency Medical Technician Lab    (6 credits)  
This course component provides hands-on instruction and evaluation of the psychomotor skills required for entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians as outlined in the National EMS Education Standards and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Students develop proficiency in patient assessment, airway management and ventilation, oxygen therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED use, hemorrhage control, shock management, splinting and immobilization, lifting and moving patients, and assisting with medications permitted at the EMT level. Skills are practiced through instructor-guided laboratory sessions and integrated scenario-based simulations designed to reinforce clinical decision-making, communication, and scene safety in the prehospital environment. Competency is evaluated using standardized performance criteria consistent with national EMS training guidelines. This course is taken alongside the (co-requisite) Emergency Medical Technician lecture. Successful completion of both the EMT lecture and Lab prepares students for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) testing and the State of MA certification.
SCI 281:  Environmental Science    (3 credits)  
The objective of this course is to develop an understanding of how the natural world works, how it affects us as humans and how we influence it. Through this study, students will increase their understanding of the major environmental issues impacting the world today and our future generations.

SCI 311:  The Science of Exercise    (3 credits)  
This course provides an historical perspective on physical activity and fitness, and how changes in lifestyle, technology and other factors that have contributed to a more sedentary lifestyle and related health concerns. Students will examine various forms of physical activity and will be introduced to exercise physiology, the ways in which physical activity impacts biology, including physical health, mental health and the brain. The literature on various forms of exercise and the impact on health will be examined including but not limited to endurance, flexibility, strength, stamina, cognition, memory. We will investigate current trends in exercise, by factors such as age, culture and gender, and whether these factors are considered in our efforts to influence.
SCI 339:  Epidemiology & Public Health    (3 credits)  
Epidemiology and Public Health introduces the foundations of epidemiology and biostatistics as applied to the study, monitoring and maintenance of public health. This course focuses on the foundations and methods of epidemiologic investigation; accurate sampling, analysis and presentation of data, and the use of classical statistical approaches to describe the health of populations. Topics include the dynamic behavior of disease; outbreaks, spread, epidemics, pandemics, and control strategies. Additionally, this course discusses and reviews epidemiologic study designs, cause and effect, treatment efficacy, and ethical and legal issues in epidemiology.
