Attendance Policy
Accelerated degree programs within Bay Path Online are carefully designed with dynamic learning experiences involving substantial class engagement and in compliance with federal credit hour guidelines.
Participation is critical for all scheduled classes, regardless of modality. The Registrar's Office will monitor reports of academic participation as attendance for all courses. In accordance with the federal and state financial aid requirements, the University will maintain accurate records of student attendance.
Due to the accelerated nature of Bay Path Online, the following policy is strictly enforced:
- Students are required to actively demonstrate engagement in any courses for which they are registered by submitting an assignment and/or discussion board post by Wednesday at 11:59pm ET of Week 2.
- Students with active military orders or students who are in the National Guard or Reserves who have drill dates or annual training that coincide with the first class meeting may be exempt from the Attendance Policy. Students must provide a copy of their active military orders or their schedule of military drill and/or training dates to the Registrar’s Office (registrar@baypath.edu) by the Wednesday prior to the start of the session in order to be eligible for exemption from the Attendance Policy.
Administrative Drop from Class (missing a single course)
Students who fail to attend in the manner described above will be administratively dropped from that course. The Registrar’s Office will contact these students via their Bay Path email, copying the student’s primary academic advisor. In this email, students will be informed of their impending drop.
Administrative Drop from Institution (missing all courses in a session)
Students who fail to attend by participating in their first class meeting of all of their courses in a session will be administratively dropped from all courses and may be withdrawn from the institution. The Registrar’s Office will contact these students via their Bay Path email, copying the student’s primary academic advisor. In this email, students will be informed of their impending drop and will be sent the Enrollment Status Form.
Enrollment Status Form
If the student wishes to continue to be registered for classes in later sessions of that term, they must complete an Enrollment Status Form. A link to this form is sent to the student via email by the Registrar’s Office. By submitting this form to Bay Path University, the student is informing the institution of their intentions in relation to their enrollment status. The student must submit the form by midnight Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the Friday before the second scheduled Saturday of the current session.
If the student fails to submit the Enrollment Status Form by the stated deadline – or indicates that they do not wish to continue – the Registrar’s Office will administratively drop them from all current and future courses, while also administratively withdrawing them from the institution.
Planning Ahead to Return
- New students who wish to defer their enrollment to a date within the current term should consult their academic advisor or admissions counselor.
- New students who wish to defer their enrollment to another term should consult their admissions counselor.
- Returning students who wish to remain enrolled at the institution should contact their academic advisor or admissions counselor.
Dropping or withdrawing from course(s), whether initiated by the student or the institution, may significantly affect a student’s financial aid. Students with any questions related to the attendance policy should contact their academic advisor directly.
Attendance Policy for the Associate of Science in Nursing Program
The nature of the content and experiences within the ASN nursing curriculum requires attendance in class, simulation/laboratory, and clinical. The faculty recognizes that because of illness and other unexpected circumstances some absences will occur. It is then the responsibility of the student to contact the faculty member involved and make appropriate arrangements for the absent time or learning activity. The assignment of make-up work such as readings, papers and/or additional clinical experiences will be consistent for all students.
Lab and Clinical Attendance
Students are expected to be in the clinical on their scheduled day, unless prior arrangements have been made with course faculty. Students are not allowed on the clinical floor unless scheduled (if not scheduled they will be sent home). All missed lab and clinical days will be made up for all students.
ASN Program Lab and Clinical Absences Make-up Policy
Clinical and labs are a required part of the nursing program. It is expected that students attend all scheduled clinical and lab experiences. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the clinical/lab faculty within 48 hours of the missed experience to reschedule the missed hours. Absences must be completed in order for the student to progress to the next semester of the curriculum. Clinical/lab make-up hours are required for all students. If the make-up hours are scheduled after the end date of the course, the student will receive an incomplete grade until the hours are made up.
