Retiring Faculty Policy
The title “Emeritus” or “Emerita” is an honor that may be conferred upon retirement. The designation may accompany any faculty rank and identifies the designee as a continuing member of the University community. In special cases, the title Emeritus (a) may be conferred on a person retiring from an administrative position at Bay Path University. Such designees have a distinguished record of outstanding contributions over a substantial number of years. The designation may be added to the titles of University officers, academic leaders, deans, and comparable positions at the time of retirement from the administrative post or at the time of retirement from the University.
A retiring member of the Bay Path University faculty may be recommended by the President, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chair of the Board of Trustees, in consultation with one another, to the Committee of Trustees as a candidate for Faculty Emeritus (a) status. Each candidate shall have served a minimum of 15 full-time continual years with distinction as a member of the University faculty.
The Committee on Trustees shall consider all such recommendations and shall make a recommendation to the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. The decision of the Board is final.
Each person elected by majority vote by the Board to serve as Faculty Emeritus (a) shall be privileged to receive the following continuing benefits:
- Will remain on all official distribution lists for major University publications and events.
- Will retain a Bay Path University email account.
- Will retain full use of Library resources and services.
- Will retain Bay Path University ID card privileges including discounts and use of campus facilities.
- Will be invited to participate in academic processions (e.g. Convocation and Commencement).
- Will be invited to participate in faculty/staff academic and social activities (e.g. annual holiday party).
