LAR 210: Intro to Design Thinking (3 credits)
This course introduces students to foundational principles of design thinking as a tool for innovative problem-solving and strategy development across industries. Students will learn about different methodologies for developing and applying empathy-based solutions to user and stakeholder challenges. Students will engage in exercises and projects in which they model the different steps of design thinking, including: identifying user challenges, conducting empathy fieldwork, brainstorming user-centered solutions based on qualitative and quantitative data, creating prototype concepts, and role-playing end-user testing.
LAR 400: Liberal Studies Capstone (3 credits)
Is creativity the rarefied trait of the few, or an attainable skill of the many? In this course, students will explore the theories behind creativity and its manifestations. Along the way, they will consider icons of creative thinking, explore their own creativity, and attempt to reach a consensus on the role of creativity in their lives.
Prerequisite: Senior status
LAR 498: Liberal Studies Internship (3 credits)
The internship in liberal studies is a supervised practical learning experience designed to give students the opportunity to explore career interests in fields related to liberal studies, to acquire valuable on-the-job experience, and to put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired through course work.
