Nursing Major
Nursing, B.S.
Students graduating with this degree will use knowledge and critical thinking from liberal arts, humanities, technology, and sciences, as well as theory and research in nursing practice. Students will increase their knowledge of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging DEIB, Population Health, Ethical, Legal, and Professional standards to plan and implement quality and safe care for patients/clients in multiple settings. The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has clearly defined the following 10 Domains of The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education; Knowledge for Nursing Practice; Patient-Centered Care; Population Health; Scholarship for the Nursing Discipline; Quality & Safety; Interprofessional Partnerships, Systems-Based Practice, Informatics and Healthcare Technologies, Professionalism; Personal, Professional, and Leadership. In addition, the Massachusetts Nurse of the Future Core Competencies fall into ten categories: Patient-centered care; Professionalism; Leadership; Systems-based practice; Informatics and technology; Communication; Teamwork and Collaboration; Safety; Quality improvement and Evidence-based practice.
