The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, psychomotor skills, and critical thinking necessary to enter the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians. The certificate provides comprehensive instruction in emergency medical care, patient assessment, trauma management, medical emergencies, and prehospital operations through a combination of didactic, laboratory, clinical, and field experiences.

Successful completion of the certificate satisfies the educational requirements to be eligible for National Registry certification. To become certified as an EMT, graduates must successfully complete both the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Cognitive Examination and the Massachusetts State Practical Examination. Graduates who successfully complete both examinations are eligible to apply for Massachusetts EMT certification through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services.

This certificate provides students with the educational foundation to begin a career in Emergency Medical Services or pursue further education in paramedicine, nursing, fire service, or other allied health professions. Students should note that successful completion of the certificate does not guarantee certification or licensure, as these are contingent upon successfully meeting all examination and regulatory requirements.
