An Incomplete (“I”) grade is a temporary designation assigned to a course on a student’s record. In order for a student to be eligible for an incomplete, they must meet the following requirements:

• Students should have completed at least 70% of their current coursework.
• Students must make the request to their instructor no later than the last day of the course.
• Students must provide an explanation as to the emergency or illness that prevents them from completing their course.

The student is responsible for requesting the incomplete from their instructor. The instructor is responsible for determining eligibility for the incomplete, which assignments are eligible to complete, and for submitting an incomplete grade request form on behalf of the student.

The amount of time allowed for an incomplete is determined by the length of the course:

7 weeks or fewer	Up to 14 calendar days from the final grade due date for the course
8 weeks or more	Up to 28 calendar days from the final grade due date for the course

At the conclusion of the incomplete grade period, the course instructor (or another designee from the academic program) will evaluate all completed work for the course, issue a final grade for the student, and notify the Registrar’s Office accordingly.

If a student is deemed ineligible for an incomplete by their instructor, a student has the right to request reconsideration of eligibility from the Program Leader associated with their course. 

Students may request one additional extension of their incomplete, which will be reviewed by the instructor and/or Program Leader. Students will be required to submit a compelling explanation to support a request for an extension. 

Exceptions to this policy may include undergraduate and graduate internships, practicums, and primarily out-of-classroom experience-based courses. Timelines and criteria vary by program as determined by instructor and Program Leader or designee.
