Bay Path University recognizes that selecting an academic major is a significant decision in a student's educational journey. The University provides multiple pathways for students to declare their major, whether during the admissions process or after exploring various academic interests during their first year of study.

Students are encouraged to work closely with their admissions counselor and advisor throughout the declaration process to ensure their chosen major aligns with their academic goals, career aspirations, and degree completion timeline.

Changing a Major

Undergraduate students who wish to change their declared major must consult with their advisor to discuss the implications of the change, including potential impact on degree completion timeline and course availability, and complete the Change of Major form available on BPU Community.

Traditional Undergraduate Exploratory Majors

Traditional undergraduate students admitted into Exploratory or Science Exploratory majors receive highly individualized advising to help them identify their potential, purpose, and academic pathway. Advisors and faculty offer direction and guidance through these exploratory programs. Exploratory majors are designed to support students during their first year of college to choose a career path and major.

Students in exploratory majors declare a major during their second year. Declaration must occur prior to earning 60 credits at Bay Path University. Students declare their major in consultation with their advisor by submitting a Change of Major form on BPU Community.

Additional Information for Science Exploratory Majors

The minimum high school GPA requirement for direct admission into a Science major is 2.70. Students who do not meet the minimum threshold but have a high school GPA between 2.50 and 2.69, will have the option to enroll in the Science Exploratory major. Science Exploratory majors must successfully meet specific criteria and declare a major by the time they have earned 60 credits of coursework at Bay Path University.

To declare a Science major, students must earn a grade of C or better in BIO 110 Biology I for Science Majors, BIO 110L Biology I for Science Majors Lab, CHE 120 Chemistry I, and CHE 120L Chemistry I Lab, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70. If these criteria are not met by the completion of the third semester, students must declare a major outside of the Science department.
