All students are provided with a degree audit that specifies the courses they are required to complete to obtain their degree. Course substitutions and waivers are permitted only in rare cases. Undergraduate students must fulfill each of the Core Curriculum themes required by their major using approved Bay Path University courses and/or transfer credit considered equivalent to one of the approved courses.

Course Substitution

A course substitution allows a student to fulfill a program requirement with a different course. The course being used as a substitute should be academically equivalent to the program requirement that it is replacing. A student should contact their advisor if they want to request a course substitution. All course substitutions are reviewed and approved by the Program Leader and processed by the Office of the Registrar. 

Course Waiver

A course waiver permits a student to be exempted from a specific required course based on prior academic preparation or demonstrated competency. Petitions for waivers of courses must be reviewed and approved by the Program Leader and processed by the Office of the Registrar.

Certain program requirements may not be eligible for substitution or waiver, unless explicitly permitted by the Program Leader. Please note that there may be limits to the number of substitutions or waivers permitted for certain programs.

Limitations

• Substitutions and waivers may not be used to bypass capstone, thesis, dissertation, or comprehensive examination requirements, unless explicitly permitted by the program.
• Programs may limit the number of substitutions or waivers permitted toward a degree.
• Course substitutions approved for one student do not automatically apply to other students.
