Auditing Courses Policy

Any learner may audit a class to acquire knowledge but not to earn academic credits or a grade. Learners who audit classes are expected to comply with the attendance requirements and complete assigned reading in preparation for active participation in class discussions; however, they are not required to submit work for feedback/evaluation or take examinations or quizzes in the course.  Should a learner auditing a course desire to submit work for feedback, the learner must work with the instructor teaching the course to determine whether or not they are eligible to turn in assignments/exams and whether they would receive feedback. These decisions reside with the instructor of the course, and learners should not assume they will receive feedback. Audited courses will be recorded on the learner’s permanent academic record with a grade of “AU”. Certain courses (i.e. practicum, internship, labs, field experience, etc.) may not be eligible for auditing. Exceptions to these courses require written approval from the Program Leader.

Learners must officially register to audit a course through a written request to the Registrar’s Office at registrar@baypath.edu. Approval to audit a course is granted on a space-available basis and requires Program Leader approval. Learners may not change their enrollment status from audit to for-credit (or vice versa) after the close of the add/drop period. A previously audited course may be taken later for credit, at which time the learner will be responsible for all associated tuition and fees.

Financial aid is not available for audited courses. Please note that financial obligations are incurred for an audited course unless the course is dropped before the add/drop deadline. Additional information about the cost of auditing courses is available in the Auditing a Course policy in the Financial Information section of this academic catalog.
