Bay Path University expects students to demonstrate attendance for all courses in which they are registered, regardless of modality (in-person, hybrid, synchronous online, asynchronous online). Attendance is defined as active engagement in academically related activities and is monitored for all courses. Academic engagement includes, but is not limited to, participation in scheduled class sessions or discussions, engagement in other learning activities, and submission of assignments. Being physically present in class or logging into Canvas does not solely constitute attendance. All students must demonstrate academic engagement in every registered course in accordance with the course expectations. Students who fail to demonstrate attendance in academically related activities may be administratively dropped from the course, which may affect financial aid.

Please note that certain programs may have additional attendance requirements, and that students should consult with their Program Leader for guidance.

Military Orders

Students with active military orders (including National Guard/Reserves drill) that coincide with the start of a session may be exempt from the standard attendance process. Students must provide a copy of their orders to the Registrar’s Office (at registrar@baypath.edu) by the Wednesday prior to the course start date to secure this exemption.

Attendance Policy for the Associate of Science in Nursing Program

The nature of the content and experiences within the ASN nursing curriculum requires attendance in class, simulation/laboratory, and clinical. The faculty recognizes that because of illness and other unexpected circumstances some absences will occur. It is then the responsibility of the student to contact the faculty member involved and make appropriate arrangements for the absent time or learning activity.  The assignment of make-up work such as readings, papers and/or additional clinical experiences will be consistent for all students.

Lab and Clinical Attendance

Students are expected to be in the clinical on their scheduled day, unless prior arrangements have been made with course faculty. Students are not allowed on the clinical floor unless scheduled (if not scheduled they will be sent home). All missed lab and clinical days will be made up for all students.

ASN Program Lab and Clinical Absences Make-up Policy

Clinical and labs are a required part of the nursing program. It is expected that students attend all scheduled clinical and lab experiences. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the clinical/lab faculty within 48 hours of the missed experience to reschedule the missed hours. Absences must be completed in order for the student to progress to the next semester of the curriculum. Clinical/lab make-up hours are required for all students. If the make-up hours are scheduled after the end date of the course, the student will receive an incomplete grade until the hours are made up. Nursing (ASN) & Clinicals: Due to the nature of the curriculum, all missed lab and clinical hours must be made up to progress to the next semester. Missed hours made up after the course end date will result in an "Incomplete" (I) grade until finished.
